Upload a File to the Nexus That Only Certain People Can See

Overview

Once you have uploaded your modern to the NexusMods site, you may non have bothered with setting the "Permissions and Credits" tab. Or perhaps y'all decided to change your original permissions or otherwise alter some aspect of the upload. Here is how to manage those settings. (The figures and description are every bit of 11 May 2018. The site changes over time, then minor differences are possible.)

The very basics regarding permissions are simple. Anything you create in written form automatically falls under "copyright constabulary". That ways you lot equally the author retain ALL rights exclusively until and unless you give them away, for your lifetime plus 70 years (or more if a articulation authorship). The details of the constabulary varies by land of origin (where the piece of work is created or filed). In one case you have given abroad those rights, you can not repossess them (to the best of my knowledge; I am non a lawyer). In that location are a number of dissever rights which have to be dealt with individually. That is most of what those dissimilar "permissions" are dealing with: the diverse private rights.

Any mod creator should at least read the Wikipedia entries on Software copyright, and Copyright infringement. The articles on Derivative work and Transformation are also worth knowing as well so yous don't run into violation of them.

Details

Upwardly in the upper right-corner of the NexusMods spider web page one time you have logged on, you lot will discover your logged in "account name", avatar icon, and a "gear" icon.

  • Select (<Left-click> on) the "gear" icon to take yous to your contour "settings" page. On the page thus displayed yous will see a "Files(Mine)" tab.
  • Select that "Files(Mine)" tab. That will cause a folio to exist displayed with a list of the mod files you lot accept uploaded to the NexusMods site.
  • Nether each file is a column labelled "Manage Mod" and a 2d 1 labelled "Mod Status".
  • Under the "Manage Mod" entry are entries to specific aspects of that modernistic such as "Mod details", "Documentation", "Permissions", and "Requirements". We are going to talk about the "Permissions" entry and so select that.

  • This page displays the "<name of your mod>" (due east.thou. "Edit UDKInstall-2011-09") followed past ":Permissions". Under that is the label "Your Modernistic Page", and below that is a series of "tabs" related to the entries you just saw on the "Files(Mine)" tab nether the "Manage Mod" column. The tab labelled "Permissions" has a colored dot in the "radio button" indicating it is the page you are currently looking at, while other tabs take a white dot indicating they accept at to the lowest degree some settings configured, and others may have no dot indicating they accept no settings established. (See Permissions Figure-1a. Click the link/thumbnail to come across the enlarged prototype. Use your browser "<back page>" control to return to this page.)

  • Following are "Modernistic Folio Permissions" regarding what you lot are assuasive people viewing your mod page to edit on that folio and information technology's various tabs. These should be self-explanatory; simply when in dubiousness, contact a forum moderator for the official Nexus site position on their intended meaning. (See Permissions Figure-1b. Click the link/thumbnail to run into the enlarged image. Use your browser "<back page>" command to return to this folio.)

  • Following that are the "Distribution, credits and permissions" which apply to the use other may brand of your mod. These are what announced nether the "Permissions and credits" tab on the download page. Please give careful consideration to these permissions, not just when you get-go upload your mod, but as well when you decide yous are finished with working on it. No affair how useful and functional your mod may exist when you lot are "washed" with it, things tin alter and if yous have locked downwardly your permissions, others cannot brand whatever changes to make it notwithstanding functional unless you have explicitly granted them permission to exercise so. Many a beloved modern has fallen to the wayside because the author can no longer be contacted then information technology tin can have a "minor fix". (See Permissions Effigy-1b. Click the link/thumbnail to come across the enlarged paradigm. Use your browser "<dorsum page>" control to return to this page.)
Note the showtime "checkbox" allows you to 'specify my own permissions in the "Additional Permission instructions" text box below and not use the born options'. If this is checked, yous will not be able to select any of the predefined permissions that immediately follow. (They do show the default settings, all the same.) You volition have to enter your ain specific permissions in the "free-form" text box which follows that section. You should merely consider using the gratis-course text box when nothing else will do, as in the example shown in the effigy where someone else' "Terminate User License Agreement" (EULA) has to be used instead.

  • Immediately following the "Additional Permission instructions" text box is the "Credits" text box. This is followed by the optional "Donations" switch that (when enabled) causes that box to appear on your download page. (See Permissions Figure-1d. Click the link/thumbnail to see the enlarged image. Use your browser "<back page>" control to return to this page.)
  • The "Next" push takes you lot to the "Requirements and mirrors" tab.

Requirements & Mirrors Figure

  • The "Official mod requirements (DLCs)" list varies by game. These should only be selected if they MUST exist included in the game load society in order for your mod to work correctly. Other required mods would include any which are considered "master files" for your modernistic or provide essential functions such as "script extenders". (See Requirements & Mirrors Figure. Click the link/thumbnail to see the enlarged image. Use your browser "<back page>" control to return to this page.)
  • The "Manufactures" tab should be used for technical explanations not considered desirable or appropriate for inclusion in your modernistic description. The description is where you "market place" your mod to the community as something they want to utilize. An article is where you might explain the advantages to your approach to the mod'south solution to the perceived problem, or the nature of the underlying problem. This tab is often overlooked, then don't rely upon it to convey essential information for using your mod unless you make a specific reference (and link) to it in the description.

The other tabs should exist self-explanatory:

  • Mod Detail include "Category", 'Name", "Language", "Versions, "Author", "Brief overview", "Detailed Description", and "Nomenclature".
  • Media is both Images (pictures) and videos.
  • Documentation contains "ReadMe", "ChangeLog", and "Additional Information" text.
  • Manage Files lets y'all do just that for your uploaded mod files. The "File Category" enables you to move a previous version file from "Primary Files" to another predefined category such as "Update", "Optional files", "Onetime versions", or "Miscellaneous". Do apply a "major-minor" version number organization to identify each upload version of your mod file. Non only does this allow users to know if they have the latest version, but helps identification if they need to revert to an before version in the effect a issues makes it necessary (and no 1 is perfect 100% of the time).
  • Publish Mod is very similar to the Modernistic Detail page, only is for uploading mod files to the site.
